The stunning landscape and moderate climate surprise everyone who visits Iceland for the first time. Warmed by Gulf Stream waters, Iceland is a land of contrasts, exhibiting a unique side of Mother Nature. With a history rich in folklore and drama, documented in Sagas that are still cherished today, Iceland has a proud and heroic heritage. Geothermal springs, geysers and volcanoes are found throughout the entire country. The Earth bubbles from heat long-buried beneath the ground, and vast lava fields present lunar-like reminders of ancient eruptions. Soft moss covers the primeval earth, forming a rich green blanket in summer, where flowers take root and bloom profusely, unencumbered by fences and highways and other man-made bows to civilization. Mountains rise and fall, gently and sharply, with cascading waterfalls rushing excitedly to lakes, rivers or the sea below.
